You’ll find the Tipton-Haynes State Historic Site at 2620 S. Roan Street, and it’s packed with stories from every chapter of Johnson City’s past. The main house dates back to 1784, built by John Tipton himself, and it even played a role in the famous Battle of Franklin (1788) — when locals clashed over whether to join the short-lived “State of Franklin” or stay loyal to North Carolina.
What makes it stand out is just how much there is to explore. The property covers 45 acres and includes 11 historic buildings, the original family cemetery, a natural spring, a small cave, and even a nature trail winding through the grounds.
